Counting what matters

Intentional walks, not pocket steps.

Ironstride counts workout miles, not background steps. A walk you record in the app, or on your Apple Watch, moves the road. Steps from carrying groceries do not. That keeps the challenge about the walks people choose to take, and keeps a phone left on the treadmill from winning the month.

Walkers and runners share one board. Walking counts mile for mile, the same as running, and teams are ranked by miles per person, so the person who walks every day is the one who moves the team.

Questions

Walking challenge questions.

Does Ironstride count steps?

No. It counts miles from the workouts you record: a walk in the app, or a walk on your Apple Watch that arrives through Apple Health. Background steps from the rest of the day do not count.

Can walkers beat runners?

Yes. Teams are ranked by miles per person, and walking counts mile for mile, the same as running. Steady daily walkers often lead.

Do I need a smartwatch?

No. Your phone records the walk with GPS. An Apple Watch works too.

How long should a walking challenge last?

Four to eight weeks gives people time to build a habit without losing interest. Team Road Trip runs up to 8 weeks, or all year on the yearly plan.

Can we walk the road between our two offices?

Yes. Team Road Trip can race between any two real places, like your two offices or your office and a partner site, with a stamp in each real town along the way.

What about people who use a wheelchair or can’t walk far?

Adaptive cardio counts too: every 10 minutes is one road mile. Rows, rides, swims and elliptical miles also count, each at a fair rate.

Is a walking challenge free?

Free for up to 15 people, on every plan. Members who join never pay.
